Several adolescent gynecologists told the BBC that young girls under the age of 15 were increasingly seeking out the operation, which shortens and reforms the labia minor surrounding the vagina—most often because they are distressed by the size or shape of their vulvas. In , labiaplasty was the second-fastest growing cosmetic procedure in the US after breast enlargement, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. That figure has been relatively steady over the past decade at least, and some of those surgeries relate to injury, recurrent disease, or infection, according to the NHS. It is also used as part of the reconstructive process for victims of female genital mutilation.

The clitoris is a gift, so why is there an ingrained fear of talking about it? | Lucy McCormick
By Khaleda Rahman for MailOnline. These pictures show frightened girls lined up before villagers in Kenya to be circumcised - even though the brutal practice is now illegal in the country. But in many African tribes, traditions are more important than laws and circumcision is considered a rite of passage that marks their transition into womanhood so they can marry. Reuters photographer Siegfried Modola captured this ceremony in rural Kenya for four teenage girls of the Pokot tribe, in Baringo County. Draped in animal skin and covered in white paint, the girls squat over large stones in the remote village after being circumcised - a life-threatening custom banned in the country three years ago. Tearful: One of the young girls, covered in an animal skin, cries after being circumcised. The practice was outlawed three years ago. Frightened: Four young Pokot girls stand outside one of the girl's homes just before the beginning of their circumcision ceremony.

Luck, I think. Pure luck. That, and probably our parents did a few things right. You can read the full rules here. Below are 17 products from Munchkin that make parenting easier, safer, cleaner and less likely to land you in jail. Want Mommy Shorts delivered daily or weekly to your inbox?
F irst things first: the documentary Vaginas Channel 4 was not about vaginas — it was about vulvas. They were photographed up close and personal by the artist Laura Dodsworth with their owners invited to sit, look and talk about them afterwards as part of a project that follows on from similar ones she has done involving breasts and penises separately, for the avoidance of doubt. Presumably the powers that be thought calling it Vulvas would lead too many unsuspecting viewers to settle down in anticipation of a programme about the history of Swedish engineering. It was not. It did what it should have said on the tin.
